EC Bahia
EC Bahia (BAH)
Overview
Esporte Clube Bahia, commonly called Bahia, is one of the most prestigious clubs in Brazil's Northeast. Founded in 1931 in Salvador, capital of Bahia State, the club competes in Brazilian Série A and plays home matches at Arena Fonte Nova, a modern 50,000-capacity stadium built for the 2014 World Cup.
The Tricolor de Aço (Steel Tricolor) boasts an impressive trophy cabinet with two Brazilian championship titles (1959 and 1988) and numerous Bahia State championships. The club maintains an intense rivalry with Vitória in the Ba-Vi, Salvador's derby, considered one of Brazilian football's most passionate. Encounters between these two teams mobilize the entire city and create a unique atmosphere.
Bahia also distinguishes itself through its social commitment and role in combating racism in Brazilian football. The club was one of the first to integrate Black players into its professional teams from the 1930s onwards. With a loyal supporter base estimated at several million throughout Brazil, Bahia represents Northeast pride in national football.
