Boavista
Boavista FC (BOA)
Overview
Boavista Futebol Clube, commonly called Boavista or Boavista Porto, is a Portuguese football club based in Porto. Founded in 1903, the club plays at Estádio do Bessa Século XXI, a modern 28,263-capacity stadium located in Boavista neighborhood, representing northern Portuguese football tradition.
Boavista holds special place in Portuguese football history as the only club outside the "Big Three" (Benfica, Porto, Sporting) to have won the Portuguese championship in 2001. This historic victory marked Lusitanian football and remains etched in memories as one of the sport's greatest underdog stories.
Boavista's black and white checkered colors are unique in Portuguese football and make the club immediately recognizable. Nicknamed "As Panteras" (The Panthers), the club embodies fighting spirit and Boavista neighborhood pride in Porto, creating passionate local support.
The Bessa, club stadium since 1911 and entirely reconstructed for Euro 2004, offers boiling atmosphere during important matches. Boavista supporters, loyal and passionate, create unique ambiance making each home encounter a special event in Porto city, challenging the hegemony of FC Porto.
Although the club experienced financial and sporting difficulties after their 2001 title, Boavista retains historic club status in Primeira Liga and continues fighting to return to Portuguese and European football summits.
