Atletico Goianiense, founded in 1937 in Goiania, capital of Goias state, is one of Brazil's central-west region's important clubs. Nicknamed 'Dragao' (the Dragon), the club experienced spectacular 21st-century renaissance. After long oscillating between divisions, Goianiense established itself in Brazilian elite and even competed in Copa Libertadores.
