Overview

Charlton Athletic Football Club, commonly called Charlton or The Addicks, is a historic club from south-east London. Founded in 1905, the club has marked English football history through glorious periods and resilience in the face of difficulties.

Playing at The Valley, an iconic 27,111-capacity stadium located in Charlton, the Addicks (nickname whose origin remains mysterious) wear red and white. The stadium has a particular history, the club having had to leave it in the 1980s before triumphantly returning in 1992.

Charlton competed in the Premier League several times, notably in the early 2000s under Alan Curbishley's direction. The club also reached an FA Cup final in 1946, losing narrowly to Derby County after extra time.

Despite recent financial and sporting difficulties, Charlton Athletic retains a loyal supporter base and the ambition to return to English football's heights. The club proudly represents south-east London in the Championship.
