Overview
CD Cobresal, based in El Salvador in Chile's Atacama region, is a unique club in the Chilean football landscape. Founded in 1979, the club takes its name and identity from the copper industry (cobre in Spanish), the region's economic pillar.
Playing at the Estadio El Cobre, Los Mineros (the Miners) have carved out a place in Chilean football's elite. Despite being based in an isolated mining town in the middle of the Atacama Desert, Cobresal has managed to compete with the big clubs from Chilean metropolises.
The club particularly distinguished itself in the 2010s, participating several times in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Cobresal is renowned for their combative play and intelligent exploitation of altitude and their region's particular climatic conditions.
With a passionate supporter base and a promising youth academy, CD Cobresal continues to write its history in the Chilean championship, proudly representing their mining region.
