Overview
Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, commonly called Vélez, is one of Argentina's great clubs based in the Liniers neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Founded in 1910, the club bears the name of Dalmacio Vélez Sarsfield, Argentine jurist and politician.
The Fortín (the Fort) plays at Estadio José Amalfitani, a 49,000-capacity venue renowned for its excellent pitch and family atmosphere. The stadium is considered one of Argentina's most beautiful.
Vélez possesses an exceptional trophy cabinet with 10 Argentine championships, one Copa Libertadores (1994), one Intercontinental Cup (1994, against AC Milan), one Copa Sudamericana (2013), and one Recopa Sudamericana (1997). The 1990s mark the club's golden age.
The club is renowned for its excellent training center, the Instituto Vélez Sarsfield, which has produced numerous world-class players. This philosophy focused on training makes Vélez a model in Argentina.
Among legends who have worn Fortín's jersey are Carlos Bianchi, Ricardo Gareca, Roberto Trotta, and more recently Juan Román Riquelme, Mauro Zárate and Lucas Pratto.
