Manchester United's January transfer window plans are becoming clearer. According to TeamTalk, the Red Devils have placed FC Lorient's left-back Arsène Kouassi on their shortlist as they look to reinforce their defensive options.
A Revelation at Lorient
The 21-year-old Burkinabè international has been one of the standout performers in Ligue 1 this season. Since joining Lorient from AC Ajaccio for €1.5 million in July 2025, Kouassi has been ever-present in the Merlus lineup, not missing a single league match.
His impressive statistics speak for themselves: one goal and four assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances. The young left-back, who reunited with his former Ajaccio coach Olivier Pantaloni in Brittany, initially arrived as backup to Darlin Yongwa but quickly seized his chance when the latter suffered muscular issues during preseason.
Multiple English Clubs Circling
Manchester United aren't the only Premier League club keeping tabs on Kouassi. According to exclusive reports from Africafoot, Bournemouth are also monitoring the defender's situation closely.
The Red Devils are considering several options for the left-back position, including Samuel Dahl from Benfica, Maximiliano Araujo from Sporting Lisbon, and Joaquín Seys from Club Bruges. However, Kouassi's profile stands out due to his athleticism, pace, and offensive contribution.
CAN 2025 as a Showcase
Currently with the Burkina Faso national team for the Africa Cup of Nations, Kouassi will have a perfect stage to showcase his talents to potential suitors. The tournament, which began on December 21st in Morocco, could serve as a decisive audition for the young defender.
Under contract until 2029 with Lorient, Kouassi's market value is currently estimated at €7 million. The Merlus would likely demand a significant fee to part with their key asset, but for a club of Manchester United's stature, such an investment in a promising talent could prove worthwhile.
