Update on the future of this West Ham United ace- The 4th Official

In a recent report, Six Foot Two offered an update on the future of West Ham United full-back Harrison Ashby. It is understood that the Hammers are hoping to tie the Scottish talent down to a new contract with his current one set to run out at the end of this campaign.

Ashby’s Recent Rise In English Football

The 20-year-old has come through West Ham’s academy before finally breaking into their first team recently. He has made six senior appearances for the East London club thus far but is still waiting to score his first goal for the club. The Scottish sensation has failed to make himself a regular starter under David Moyes’ stewardship which could hamper his growth in the long run.

Still, there is no denying that Ashby has the potential to become a future star at the London Stadium as long as West Ham can find a way to secure his long-term future at the club.

Ashby is currently on an expiring contract at the East London club. Hence, he is facing an uncertain future after West Ham did not allow him to leave permanently earlier this summer.

What Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Do With Regards To Ashby?

Ashby can be a decent defender at the back when he is playing with confidence on the field. He can get stuck in with some solid tackles and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed. The Scottish talent can even make some driving runs with the ball down the right flank but needs to figure out a way to be more consistent at the highest level. He is primarily a right-back but can also play as a right-sided winger or as a central defender if his manager asks him to do so.

At the moment, Ashby is on the fringes of David Moyes‘ squad, having fallen behind Ben Johnson in West Ham‘s pecking order. Therefore, the player would be wise to opt for a change of scenery next year either by forcing a permanent move out of the London club in January or as a free agent when his contract runs out next summer.

However, the Hammers should still try their best to tie Ashby down to a new, long-term contract as he has got the ceiling to become a fan favorite at the London Stadium in the not-too-distant future.
