Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has described Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz as a “liability” in the build-up to tomorrow night’s clash between Spurs and the Blues at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Since joining Chelsea in a £72million deal from German club Bayer Leverkusen back in September, the attacking-midfielder has struggled to hit the high notes that were expected of him.

In 26 appearances in all competitions so far this season, the 21-year-old has scored just five goals and registered six assists, with only one of those goals coming in the Premier League.

Although the German youngster’s stats do not make terrific viewing for a player that commanded such a huge transfer fee, it is important to remember that he has had to adapt to life in a new country at the age of just 21 in the middle of a global pandemic, as well as contracting Covid-19 himself back in November.

With that in mind, Havertz has not had it easy, but there is certainly hope amongst Chelsea’s supporters, especially following the arrival of German head coach Thomas Tuchel last week, that the midfielder can soon start to deliver the kind of performances he did so consistently in the Bundesliga.

And that is an opinion held by Sherwood, who is confident that the midfielder will produce the goods in the future, but he needs leaving out of the team for now.

Sherwood told Premier League Productions: “It’s difficult to judge Tuchel after two games. The first game against Wolves was boring, even though they had a lot of possession.

They were better against Burnley and two of the wing-backs scored so he’s throwing them forward.
