Norwich City warns Arsenal over signing Emiliano Buendia as Mesut Ozil’s replacement

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has told Arsenal to forget about signing Emiliano Buendia as Mesut Ozil’s replacement in the January transfer window.

Ozil travelled to Turkey over the weekend and is on the verge of officially completing his move to Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is keen to add creativity to his midfield and Buendia is one of the Arsenal manager’s top targets for the window.

However, Norwich are demanding a £40 million fee for the Argentine midfielder, who impressed in the Premier League last season.

Norwich currently sit four points clear top of the Championship and Farke insists it would make ‘no sense’ to sell Buendia and risk their chances of getting promoted to the Premier League.

‘Nothing will happen with Emi Buendia this month,’ Farke said on Tuesday. ‘In this business you can’t confirm something with 100 per cent guarantee, but I’d label it 99 per cent.

‘If I judge it in an objective way, it makes no sense for any of my players to leave at this moment and it makes no sense for the club to sell our players in January.

‘We’re in a fantastic position, it’s nearly the end of January and the season will then end in four months.

‘If a club bigger than us is interested in you and they say he should be our long-term solution, then there is always a deal possible, but not in January.

‘We’re not desperate to earn more money, we want to have success and don’t want to risk selling our key players.

‘We’re not working like a bank, we’re not maximising our incomes, we’re maximising our success to return to the Premier League level. ‘Just one transfer fee of a player can risk this project, it makes no sense.’
