Arsenal have taken interest in a highly-sought after striker that could transform into Mikel Arteta’s very own Carlos Tevez
Gabriel Martinelli has enjoyed his return to action at Arsenal despite looking as if his days under Mikel Arteta were once numbered.
The 20-year-old forward has been staking his claim for a starring role at the Gunners following a succession of spritely displays that optimise his boss’ tactical vision of high-pressing football.
Arsenal’s £6 million signing from Ituano has always been dubbed an exciting talent and, as he breaks into the side amid the ongoing uncertainty around the club’s striker situation, Martinelli could become a mainstay sooner rather than later.
Singing from the same hymn sheet, Edu’s latest endeavours in the transfer market ahead of January hint at Arteta jumping the gun and building his own playstation-esque Carlos Tevez and Ronaldo Nazario strike force.
The report claims that the 25-year-old striker, who has been likened to Tevez for his similar bulldog mentality on the pitch, is eyeing a return to Europe despite having once turned down offers from Chelsea in the past.
Gabriel is often referred to as Gabigol because of his eye for goal, having scored 29 goals in 41 games last season which included 11 in the South American version of the Champions League, Copa Libertadores de América.
Despite Lacazette and Aubameyang having looked as if they’d rekindled a fruit-bearing relationship at Arsenal just a few weeks ago, the goals have since dried up again and the Brazilian talisman could be the answer to Arteta’s problems.
90min added that Gabriel Barbosa, who is valued at £23.4 million by Transfermarkt, is keen on securing a place in the Brazil national team ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
So, an opportunity to work alongside a like-minded forward in Martinelli could spark some clever answers to Arteta’s ongoing questions.
