Over the last few years, the Bundesliga has become one of the most attractive destinations for talents around the world. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland have all chosen to ply their trades on German soil in order to develop their game and take themselves to the next level. And it is no coincidence that Manchester United have targeted the league to sign players of late.
Manchester United were in dire need of a right-winger last summer. However, when it came to identifying a transfer target, it was Jadon Sancho everywhere. Borussia Dortmund’s reluctance in accepting a fee lower than their asking price of €120 million led to the deal eventually collapsing.
Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman was on the list of Sancho’s alternatives. But with United chasing the Englishman’s signature all summer and putting most of their time into that, a deal was never going to be stuck at the last minute for a player of that quality.
According to a recently-published report in Sport Bild (via 90min.de), Coman would have managed to earn more than what he is currently getting at Bayern Munich had he joined Manchester United last summer.
Manchester United still want Coman
Coman, valued at €55 million by Transfermarkt, has been terrific for the German giants over the last two seasons. He has registered 3 goals and 9 assists from 17 appearances this term in the Bundesliga. The Frenchman’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in June 2023.
Despite Coman having a lengthy spell left in his current contract at Munich, the Bundesliga giants are ready to offer the 24-year-old a new deal. However, as suggested by the report, Coman is far from committing his future to the Bavarians.
Coman will take some time before making a definitive judgement over his future at Bayern Munich. Set to lose David Alaba for free, Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic revealed that he doesn’t want to repeat that mistake again, saying:
“It’s our goal to keep this core of players who’ve been successful with us. Every club wants to avoid losing a top player on a free.”
Manchester United are still reportedly keen on acquiring the services of Coman. And if the current talks between Bayern Munich and the Frenchman over a potential contract renewal start going south, the Red Devils could swoop in and concrete their interest in the winger
