Manchester United are in the market for a centre-half and Dayot Upamecano would certainly fit the bill.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to be keen on adding another defender to play alongside Harry Maguire.
The RB Leipzig defender has plenty of admirers though meaning United will have to fend off other interested parties.
Solskjaer failed to secure many of his top targets in the summer but that hasn’t stopped his side mounting a title charge this term.
The club are still expected to strengthen when they can though and there are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Old Trafford.
Reds eye first move in Upamecano race
United will battle with Liverpool for RB Leipzig centre-half Dayot Upamecano.
The Old Trafford club could even be tempted into make the first move in the race for the 23-year-old French international this month.
Liverpool chiefs have told Jurgen Klopp he will not be bringing in new faces this month.
Upamecano is available for a cut price fee in the summer but to ensure they get their man United could act sooner.
The defender, should he remain at Leipzig, will be taking on Liverpool in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
Unhappy Donny not an issue
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has conceded that Donny van de Beek is unhappy but maintains the Dutchman is not creating a fuss regarding his squad role.
The former Ajax man, who moved in the summer for £40m, has struggled for opportunities thus far.
The United boss though maintains he is a good character and referenced his own journey at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer said: “I wouldn’t say that Donny is happy. Of course, he wants to play more, but he gets about his job in the right manner.
“He reminds me a lot about myself, when I first came in, that he understands my difficulties and challenges.
“We are doing well and have got players who are playing really well in his position.
“I was the same with Sir Alex. When he left me out I understood and I was happy for the team to win – and Donny is that type of guy.
Williams close to loan exit
Young defender Brandon Williams is close to a loan move out of Old Trafford, reports the Sun .
West Ham and Southampton are the two clubs leading the race for his services this month.
Williams broke into the United first team last season but has not been able to get the same sort of minutes this term.
The arrival of Alex Telles has made it even harder for the academy graduate to stake his case.
