Arsenal has already heard from Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez about why they should sign him.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Martinez as his top defensive transfer target for the summer transfer season, but Ajax has already rejected two of his proposals.
Manchester United are also interested in signing the Argentine and has reportedly made a greater offer than Arsenal, sending Arteta and technical director Edu to meet with Ajax to negotiate a contract.
Martinez has described his approach to the game, given the meaning behind the moniker “Butcher,” and explained why Arteta and Erik ten Hag are so eager to sign him.
He remarked that I’m known as the Butcher of Amsterdam or the Canisero. “We Argentines are passionate about everything, and when I’m on the field, I battle for every ball.
“I will step over dead bodies if necessary. Because I am fighting for food for every member of my family and friends, I want to win every 50/50 circumstance.
“That is how I feel and how every Argentine feels. I am unable to articulate this kind of motivation.”
With Martinez having worked closely with Ten Hag, who in May moved from Amsterdam to Manchester, United has an advantage in the race to sign Martinez.
Martinez exclaimed, “I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished at Ajax and under Ten Hag. “Thanks to my progression at Ajax, I developed as a player and earned my Argentinean international status.
“I even got to represent my nation by donning the captain’s armband. My father started crying that day; it was an emotional moment. Everyone, even my mother, cousins, aunts, and uncles, wept.
“My objective is undoubtedly the World Cup. We have excellent players, so we must all be prepared. Together, we won the Copa America, and we can do it once more.”
