La Liga could block Antoine Griezmann transfer. He’s signed for them, played for them and he has the jersey to show for it. But Antonio Greizmann move to Barcelona could be blocked by La Liga
And the boss of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has conceded there’s a rule that could reverse the transfer, despite Griezmann having already played for Barca in a pre-season match after all the pomp and circumstance of the superstar’s arrival.
“It is possible to block a player’s transfer,” Tebas told Onda Cero.
“La Liga will have to decide what course of action to take. [Atletico] submitted a complaint and put in doubt whether we should pass Antonio Greizmann’s License to Barcelona.
“There’s a process that has been put in motion and those overseeing it will have to come to resolve the case.”
The argument Atletico are making is this: Barcelona waited until July 1 lapsed for Griezmann’s release clause to drop from €200million to $€120 million — a massive relative saving on a star of the Frenchman’s quality.
Barcelona then pulled the trigger on July 12 to force the deal through, saving themselves about $143 million.
But Atlhttps://fansscope.com/2019/07/13/barcelona-signs-atletico-madrid-forward-antoine-griezmann/etico claims the long-mooted deal was stitched up well before the deadline and, therefore, Barca should cough up the €80 million difference.
It would be an incredible scene to see Griezmann forced back to Atletico over a rules violation, and with a club with Barcelona’s deep pockets, you get the sense a compromise would indeed be struck.
It seems every transfer saga happens in La Liga, let’s watch and see how this one plays out.
