Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has warned Erling Haaland that ‘the grass is not always greener’ amid rumours linking him with an exit from the German giants.

The Norwegian forward was suggested to be under consideration by Chelsea during the summer transfer window as Blues boss Thomas Tuchel attempted to bolster his forward line.

In the end, Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku – the Belgian returning to Stamford Bridge in a £98m deal from Inter Milan.

That has not totally silenced the Haaland exit rumours though, and he could yet still be on the move next summer when his release clause is reportedly set to reduce to just £68million.

...

Despite that, Dortmund centre-back Hummels is not convinced that the 21-year-old will enjoy his time elsewhere as much and has appealed for him to stay at the Signal Iduna Park.

Talking to Sport Bild, the German said: “The grass is not always greener on the other side. You really have to be aware of that in football.

“It’s worth a lot if you have a good environment, feel comfortable with the guys and can also be really successful. You have to value that, that’s not a given at every club. So we have a lot to offer to Erling.”

Since arriving from Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg, he has plundered 68 goals in just 67 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, he has also begun the new season in red hot form, having scored 11 goals and provided a further four assists in just eight outings for die Schwarzgelben.
