Erling Haaland to Arsenal is done as forward drops red and white transfer hint

Erling Haaland has been linked with a summer exit from Borussia Dortmund and one Arsenal fan has a brilliant theory that the striker has dropped a hint over his next move

As previously reported by football audit, the Gunners will target two centre-forwards this summer as Mikel Arteta aims to put the finishing touches to his first-team squad overhaul and reports this week have claimed Benfica’s Darwin Nunez has emerged as a new target.

However, for some Arsenal fans, Haaland would be the perfect signing. This is despite transfer expert Fabrizio Romano pouring cold water over the possibility of the Norway international linking up with compatriot Martin Odegaard at club level when speaking on his Here We Go podcast: “I see some Arsenal fans asking about Erling Haaland but guys, no. Erling Haaland is not a realistic possibility for this summer for Arsenal. But they are exploring the market for many strikers.

“We know that in January they explored the possibility for Jonathan David from Lille but it was impossible in January. Let’s see in the summer what happens. We know many, top top clubs want Jonathan David from Lille. Another player, Darwin Nunez.

Important goal against Ajax in Champions League. Important striker, he has scored a lot of goals, he has this kind of mentality from Uruguay, he is a fighter and a very good player.”

Amid that glowing verdict of Nunez and him being the more realistic signing for Arsenal, one fan, in particular, has brilliantly theorised a scenario that ‘hints’ at Haaland to the Gunners is a done deal. Prior to Norway’s clash with Slovakia, Haaland posed for a picture alongside Odegaard and Sander Berge with the colour of his flip-flops prompting a brilliant response from @SemperFiArsenal on Twitter who posted: “Red and white slippers!!!! Haaland to Arsenal done.”

Of course, this Arsenal fan is unlikely to get their wish as Haaland is reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea, Manchester City as well as Real Madrid. But it’s no surprise the 21-year-old is held in high esteem with regard to the standard of striker Arteta and Gunners technical director Edu should be targeting this summer after scoring 41 goals in as many appearances for Dortmund last season.

Even during an injury disrupted campaign this time around, Haaland has still managed 23 goals in as many appearances across all competitions. That sort of return from the striker Arsenal do end up signing this summer would almost certainly propel them into a force to be reckoned with in the 2022/23 campaign.
