Edu Gasper In talks to Sign Brazil winger Everton, Edu has held talks over signing Gremio winger Everton Soares for Arsenal, according to reports in Brazil.

Arsenal officially named Edu as their new technical director earlier this week and he has taken up his role following Brazil’s Copa America campaign where he worked as the general coordinator for the national team.

Everton, meanwhile, played a key role in Brazil’s Copa America success this summer and ended as the tournament’s Golden Boot winner with three goals. The forward was also named Man of the Match for his performance in Brazil’s 3-1 win over Peru in the final.

According to UOL and GloboEsporte, Arsenal started talks over a move for Everton while TheCopa America was still ongoing and Edu was able to feed information about the player back to the club.

GloboEsporte report that Edu spoke to the player’s agent Gilmar Veloz on Monday before he travelled to England to discuss the potential cost of the transfer for Arsenal. Unai Emery’s side is now considering submitting a formal offer to Gremio.

But the Gunners face heavy competition from Atletico Madrid, who have indicated that they are ready to spend €35 million (£30.5m) on the 23-year-old.

When asked about his future after Gremio’s 2-1 win over Vasco on Saturday, Everton replied: ‘I really do not know what can happen, the more time goes by, the more things are tapering down.’ Everton, who primarily plays on the left flank, has made 145 appearances for Gremio and has scored 38 goals for the club.
