Donny van de Beek will sign next week after ‘telling teammates he’s joining Man Utd’

Donny van de Beek has reportedly told his Ajax team-mates he’s joining Manchester United.

The Red Devils have emerged as the favourites for his signature despite Van de Beek previously being strongly linked with a transfer to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

However, personal intervention from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now looks to have put United in the driving seat.

Spanish publication Sport claim the Dutchman has now told his Ajax team-mates he’s heading to Old Trafford.

The report claims he will travel to England next week to sign his contract.

Ajax refused to budge from their €55m (£49m) asking price meaning Barcelona had to sell players in order to fund a deal.

Ronald Koeman had made it clear he wanted the talented 23-year-old in his squad but Barca’s delay in shipping out their deadwood has allowed United to swoop in.

United look to be working on a deal with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag confirming the player was left out of a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt due to “developments” regarding his future.
Asked why Van de Beek was absent from Ajax’s squad, Hag said: “There are indeed developments that keep him out of the squad [to face Frankfurt].”

Developments on the player’s future have certainly moved quickly as just a few weeks ago he suggested he would be happy to stay in Holland.

“It is very messy, in any case a very messy period in terms of transfers,” Van de Beek said.

“I’m still here and after all these years I still have a lot of fun. If I also play at Ajax next season, I still have a lot of fun. You won’t hear me complaining.”
