In a recent interview with Bulinews, Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind claimed that he wants to play for Arsenal in the future. The Danish forward labelled Arsenal as his ‘dream destination’ and said,
“If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favourite club. In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there.
“But as I said, that’s not what I’m focusing on at the moment. I’m doing well here in Wolfsburg, it’s a good club for me, and the Bundesliga is a great league to play in. At the moment, I’m just focusing on my performances here, and then we’ll see if I’m good enough to take the next step sometime in the future.”
Wind’s Impressive Campaign In German Football
Wind had a decent season in Bundesliga recently after joining from FC Copenhagen back in January. The 23-year-old has banged in five goals and secured one assist in 16 matches for Wolfsburg so far in the Bundesliga.
The Denmark international led the line well by averaging 2.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2021-22 Bundesliga season. However, he has been sloppy when distributing possession from the back after completing only 66.1% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
The Hvidovre-born talent’s current deal with Wolfsburg is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Arsenal would have to make a big offer if they decide to make a move for him in the future.
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Move In For Wind This Summer?
Wind can use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition centre-backs in the air and is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target.
The Danish striker has got the vision to engineer some good chances for his teammates in the final third and can also make a few clever runs with the ball deep inside the opponent’s half. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing Wind. Hence, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should consider moving in for the Denmark sensation when the transfer window reopens this January or at the end of this campaign. He has what it takes to grow into a future star at the North London club as long as the Gunners are willing to play him regularly in the coming seasons.
