In a recent report from Mirror, it was mentioned that Barcelona youngster Pablo Páez Gavira (Gavi) has renewed his contract until 2026. It has also been stated that the Spanish giants have confirmed that a massive release clause of €1 billion (£866m) has been set for the young magician which ends Liverpool’s pursuit and makes it impossible for other European giants to target him in the next transfer window.
Gavi’s Impressive Debut Campaign For Barcelona
The 18-year-old had a solid debut for Barcelona’s senior team last season. He did well to impress in the central areas of the pitch. He managed to establish himself as a key player appearing in 45 matches for the Spanish giants last season, making the most out of his appearances by scoring 2 goals and creating five assists.
The Spain U-21 international has produced some excellent displays in the midfield, attracting interest from various clubs. He performed consistently under Xavi, after averaging 0.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the La Liga. He was exceptional in distributing possession as he completed 89.3% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division in his last term (stats via whoscored).
Good Decision From Xavi?
The Barca wonder kid excels at holding the ball in the central areas of the field, and his quickness and agility make him an exceptional dribbler. He can create space for himself and comfortably play his way out of tricky positions in between defenders. Furthermore, he is adept at distributing possession and creating enough chances in the final third.
The Spanish midfielder is no doubt one of the brightest young talents produced in the academy. He has the potential to become one of the finest midfielders in Europe and has also garnered attention from various coaches, including Pep Guardiola, who deems him a great talent at his age.
Gavi remains the youngest goal scorer for Spain and at the age of 18, he has already acquired 10 caps from the Spanish national team. He is primarily a central midfielder but remains versatile enough to virtually play anywhere in the final third except in the centre-forward role, which makes him a brilliant addition to any squad.
Ronald Koeman gave him the opportunity to express himself in the senior squad after he noticed his potential and since then he has burst onto the scene showcasing his talents while performing consistently for his side. Now, Xavi has done well to discuss with the Barca bosses in offering him a contract renewal as he felt there was no time to waste when it came to keeping him at Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.
