In a recent report, Birmingham Mail stated that Aston Villa could move in for Rangers winger Ryan Kent this January. It is believed that the Villans would be enticed to make a move for the English sensation this winter when he will just have six months left to run in his contract at the Ibrox Stadium.
Kent’s Decent Numbers At The Ibrox Stadium
The 25-year-old has made an impressive start to this campaign as he managed to put in a few eye-catching displays for Rangers in the final third. Kent picked up three assists in eight matches for the Glaswegian outfit last season across various competitions.
The Oldham-born sensation has been a consistent performer for his current employers on the attacking end of the field based on his average of 2.3 shots, 2.3 key passes, 1.0 crosses and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 85% of his attempted passes in the Scottish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Kent is on an expiring contract at Rangers which could open the door for the Villans to land him in January.
Is Kent A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard?
Kent is an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the field. He can even shoot the ball with power and precision from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the opponent’s half.
Kent has previously played under Steven Gerrard‘s stewardship and won’t take much time settling into his brand of football at Villa Park if Aston Villa can devise a way to get him on board this winter. At 25, the English sensation has got his best years ahead of him and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the West Midlands club.
We can expect Kent to add more goals and creativity to Gerrard’s frontline. He would give Aston Villa more options in the final third and help them cope with fixture congestion better over the next few years.
Kent usually plays as a left-winger but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or operate as a secondary striker down the middle. Hence, someone of his versatility will be a great choice for the Villans to pursue when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
