Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling this summer, according to recent reports.
The Gunners are set for a busy transfer window at the end of the current campaign, with technical director Edu keen to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attacking options, given both Eddie NKetiah and Alexandre Lacazette are into the final two months of their contracts with the club.
football audit understands that City frontman Gabriel Jesus is one name on the north London outfit’s shortlisted profiles whilst Edu has been in contact with the player’s representatives over the last few months.
Now, Italian outlet Calciomercato.it have reported that Arteta ‘would like’ to bring Jesus’ teammate, Sterling, to the Emirates Stadium this summer. The England international, who is valued between €50million-70 Million (£43million-£60million) by CIES Football Observatory, is into the final 14 months of his deal with the Citizens and he has made it no secret of his admiration for the Spaniard in the past.
Speaking about the former City assistant coach to the Mirror back in October 2020, Sterling said: “(Arteta is) a person that had a lot of say here (at Man City). The manager trusted him here and he had a lot of influence on the players here and the team as well.
“So, I knew once he went into Arsenal that it would be a great opportunity for him but also he would definitely implement what he wanted to bring in. And he’s a person that will put his foot down and not let things slide as you can see with the boys at Arsenal.
“They know if they don’t run they are most likely not going to play.”
