Mikel Arteta faces the unenviable task of building a balanced squad capable of competing next season after a disastrous first campaign at Arsenal.

The Gunners missed out on European football entirely for the first time in 25 years under their inexperienced Spanish manager.

Arteta’s men finished a lowly eighth in the Premier League but the nadir came in the Europa League semi-final defeat to Villarreal, managed by former boss Unai Emery.

Pressure is on Arteta during this decisive summer window with a rebuild expected.

Transfers are complicated by Euro 2020, but the Gunners need to be proactive in the market with both incomings and outgoing if they are to compete domestically in the new season.

Football Audit has rounded up all the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Gunners joined in Camavinga race

Arsenal’s reported pursuit of highly-rated Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga may just have been made more difficult.

The Daily Mail claim Manchester United have joined the chase for the 18-year-old, who is regarded as one of the most talented young players in his position across Europe.

Arsenal, PSG and Real Madrid are credited with an interest in the teenager.

But it is suggested United may move for Camavinga after wrapping up a deal for England star Jadon Sancho.

Inter target Bellerin

Inter Milan are reportedly targeting Gunners right-back Hector Bellerin as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi.

And according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Bellerin has been identified as Hakimi’s replacement.

It is claimed that the Gunners have set a €20m (£17.2m) price tag on the 26-year-old, who has spent eight years in north London.

Xhaka exit held up over bonuses

Granit Xhaka’s expected transfer to AS Roma is being held up over performance-related bonuses, reports in Italy claim.

The Arsenal midfielder is currently preparing to lead Switzerland out in the Euro 2020 last-16 encounter against France.

But his club future remains in doubt amid strong rumours he is likely to join Jose Mourinho in Rome.

Calciomercato report that Roma have agreed to pay Xhaka’s £17m asking price, but discussions are ongoing over add-ons, which would include Arsenal earning an extra €1m if the 28-year-old plays 30 games in the new campaign.
