Arteta’s side are lacking creativity in the final third, with the manager having been criticised in some quarters for his decision to leave Mesut Ozil out of his Premier League squads.
The Spaniard is expected to therefore renew his pursuit of Lyon’s attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar – although with finances tight, Arsenal could look for cheaper alternatives.
Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.
Gunners handed Aouar boost
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their ongoing pursuit of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
Aouar was believed to be one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets during the summer transfer window, but the Gunners didn’t stump up the £55.5million wanted by Lyon.
The 22-year-old recently said he wants to stay with the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the season and help them get back into the Champions League after they missed out last term.
However, French publication L’Equipe, cited by 101 Great Goals, has claimed he could leave before the end of the season – giving the Gunners encouragement ahead of the January transfer window.
Aouar was left out the squad for Lyon’s win over Reims last weekend after refusing to take part in a team warm-down the week before because of the condition of the pitch.
Arsenal miss out on La Liga star
The Gunners appear to have missed out on Valencia winger Yunus Musah after he signed a six-year deal with the La Liga side.
The 18-year-old has been linked with interest from Arsenal, Leeds and Everton, and has made 10 appearances in the Spanish top flight this season, scoring once.
And Valencia have moved to secure the exciting teenager’s future by signing him up to a long-term contract.
And it looks like any potential suitors will have to splash out to land the youngster, with CBS Sports reporting that he has a whopping €100m (£90.2m) release clause.
That could price Arsenal out of a move either in January or next summer.
Arteta eyes Ozil replacement
Arsenal are monitoring Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder Berkay Ozcan as a potential replacement for Mesut Ozil, according to a report from Transfermarkt via TBR Football.
The report claims Arteta is keen on the 22-year-old Turkey international following his impressive form this season, with the Gunners having watched Ozcan since 2017.
With Ozil looking set to leave the Emirates, Ozcan could be a natural successor to the out-of-favour playmaker.
Norwich boss on Arsenal links to winger
Norwich boss Daniel Farke has responded to reports of Arsenal’s interest in winger Emiliano Buendia.
Buendia impressed for the Canaries in the Premier League last season, creating the fourth most chances behind Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and also putting in an 82 tackles – more than any other attacking player.
The 23-year-old has scored three goals and posted four assists in the Championship this term, and Farke knows he could have a job to hang onto his star man in January.
Asked about reports the Gunners could target Buendia, Farke said: “No comment from our side. I had this for three months.
“I will probably have to speak every day in January about these things. So I am not going to add to speculation in this period.”
