Arsenal hope to tie Bukayo Saka down to a new long-term contract after opening informal talks with the winger’s representatives.
The England midfielder has been in sensational form for the Gunners this term, becoming the side’s talisman during an impressive campaign under Mikel Arteta.
Saka signed a new four-year deal in 2020 but his stock has risen significantly since, with the winger scoring ten times in 33 appearances this season.
Liverpool and Manchester United have expressed an interest in Saka’s services but the Athletic say that Arsenal are aware of the need to recognise the winger’s progress and they want to reward him with an improved deal.
It’s claimed an ‘initial’ conversation has been held with Saka’s entourage, where the prospect of a new deal was raised.
It’s now likely that formal talks will be held and Arsenal are confident that the winger will put pen-to-paper over an improved deal.
Arsenal’s end of season form is likely to impact talks, as the club would be in a far stronger position should they finish in the Champions League.
The Gunners currently occupy the final Champions League spot but they face a battle with Tottenham and Manchester United for fourth place.
