Arsenal have reportedly made fresh contacts with Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus ahead of a potential summer transfer.
The north Londoners are keen to bring in at least one centre-forward this summer, football audit understands. Gunners strikers Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are both into the final two months of their respective contracts at the club and football audit understands that Brazilian international Jesus is one name on the club’s shortlist of profiles to replace the departing duo whilst technical director Edu has held talks with the player’s representatives in recent months.
Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Mikel Arteta and Co have placed the 25-year-old on the top of their wishlist after ‘direct contract’ with the player. Writing on Twitter, Romano said: “Arsenal have Gabriel Jesus on top of their list after new direct contacts on player side.
“He’s expected to leave Manchester City after Haaland deal, no direct contacts between clubs yet.” Jesus has enjoyed a solid season for City, netting 13 goals and nine assists across all competitions – statistics that read even more impressive when you consider he has started just 26 times for Pep Guardiola’s side this term.
However, the former Palmeiras star, who is thought to be available for £35million this summer, has refused to get drawn into speculation surrounding his future at the Etihad Stadium, claiming he is merely focusing on finishing the season with his current club. “Not time to think about this,” he said when quizzed about leaving the league leaders at the end of the current campaign.
“You expect me to say this and it’s true. Not time to think about this, now is the best moment of the season.
“I want to enjoy it, keep focussed on my teammates to fight for the Premier League. I’ve won with my teammates three times already so I know how it feels and I want to again.”
