Arsenal are conducting preliminary checks on Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz in preparation for a summer transfer.
The club’s representatives are said to have met with the Napoli star’s agents to better understand his demands.
The 25-year-old is under contract with the Serie A club until June 2023, but he has turned down the chance to extend his contract.
As a result, Napoli understands that this summer is their last chance to get a decent price for Fabian, and they will consider offers to help them balance the books.
To do so, the Italian club must sell at least three players, and Fabian’s availability in England and Spain, where Barcelona and Real Madrid are rumored to be interested, makes him a likely candidate.
Mikel Arteta, the Gunners’ manager, is a big fan of his compatriot and believes he would bring the qualities he has been trying to instill in his squad in north London.
Napoli are looking for around £16 million plus add-ons for Fabian, who is reportedly looking for a four-year contract.
Spain has called him up 15 times.
