Following Takehiro Tomiyasu’s performance for Arsenal in their overwhelming win against Southampton on Saturday, a slew of Arsenal fans took to Twitter to discuss the defender.
The three points were won by Mikel Arteta’s team, who put an end to their dismal streak. Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Magalhaes all scored to put the game out of reach.
Arsenal’s performance was not always at its best. However, following their disappointing loss to Everton on Monday night, a number of their players stood up.
At Goodison Park, Martin Odegaard was a bright spot. And it’s hard to argue with those who thought he was the man of the match against the Saints. However, there were a few individuals who went above and above.
Following the triumph, Tomiyasu was one of the first people to receive a lot of praise on social media.
Throughout his tenure at the Emirates, the Japan international has been consistent. Arsenal, who had struggled at right-back before his arrival in the summer, has benefited greatly from his consistency.
And on Saturday, he was much better. According to Whoscored, no player on either side completed more passes than the 23-year-old, who also won five aerial duels.
He was involved in both of Arsenal’s early goals. Throughout the competition, he appeared solid at the back.
Many Arsenal fans are still amazed that they were able to sign the former Bologna man for for £15.5 million during the last transfer window.
Here is what some of the Arsenal fans made of Tomiyasu in the win over Southampton…
Pretty mild prediction but I bet Tomiyasu won’t miss a single PL minute for the rest of the season. Dude’s consistent and an absolute machine

Tomiyasu has no weak foot. Brilliant trait to have. What a bargain for 18m pic.twitter.com/1eHlIKfJOW

Today we scored 3, we probably could have scored 6 with Saka x2, Laca, Martinelli etc.
But there were still so many red flags.
Tomiyasu was exceptional though. Love that guy.

Again, I can’t believe we got Tomiyasu that cheap. Man has been immense since he joined Arsenal. I backed him when we signed him and I’m happy to see him flourish so well.
