Arsenal confirm results of Gabriel Martinelli scan after injury scare, Gabriel Martinelli will only be sidelined for a few days with Arsenal confirming that the Brazilian youngster’s injury is not as bad a first feared, though he misses Thursday’s clash with Crystal Palace.
The 19-year-old rolled his ankle in the warm-up before facing Newcastle in the FA Cup third round on Saturday and had to be pulled from the starting line-up.
Martinelli was left in tears and watched the match on crutches, with Mikel Arteta initially worried that he could face another long spell out of action – though he was more optimistic at his press conference on Monday ahead of facing Palace.
Arsenal have now received the results of his scan and found no serious issues, with Martinelli returning to training in the coming days and expected to be back in action in Monday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle.
An official update from the club explained: ‘Gabi turned his right ankle during the warm-up against Newcastle United on Saturday and was subsequently taken out of the starting line-up.
‘Gabi has progressed very well and we’re hoping that he will return to full training with the squad in the next few days.’
Arteta is close to having a fully fit squad with centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes and midfielder Thomas Partey both overcoming their own issues and the pair could come back into the squad against Palace. ‘Gabriel is now back in full training and is available for selection for Thursday’s match,’ the club confirmed.
Thomas is now back in full training with the squad after recovering from an injury to the left thigh.
‘Thomas continues to regain full fitness and will be assessed ahead of Thursday’s match.’ After enduring a poor run of results at the backend of last year, Arsenal have won their last three Premier League matches on the spin and secured a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the FA Cup, with European qualification now firmly back on the agenda.
