Arsenal and Chelsea enter battle to sign Inter Milan star

Arsenal and Chelsea are eyeing moves for Inter Milan ace Achraf Hakimi ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Inter’s owners, Suning Holdings Group, have announced they will be shutting down their Chinese Super League team, Jiangsu FC, and speculation has been mounting that they could also be set to to step back their involvement with the Nerazzurri.

And while Inter chairman, Steven Zhang, has repeatedly dismissed rumours of an impending sale and takeover, there are suggestions the club may need to raise significant funds and several of Antonio Conte’s first-team squad have been linked with moves away.

According to The Telegraph, one of these players is right-back Hakimi, who completed a move from Real Madrid to the San Siro for a fee of around £34million last summer.

The report suggests Arsenal have been alerted to Hakimi’s potential availability, with Hector Bellerin on the radar of European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the situation and can see the Morocco international thriving in a more advanced role, with Reece James viewed as their long-term solution at right-back.

After struggling for minutes at the Bernabeu, Hakimi was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons from 2018 to 2020.

Dortmund were keen to make Hakimi’s deal permanent after the Moroccan established himself as one of the best young players in the Bundesliga but he went on to put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Inter.
