Alexandre Lacazette speaks out after suffering injury in clash with Harry Maguire

Alexandre Lacazette is confident there will be no lasting damage following the injury he suffered in a collision with Harry Maguire during Saturday’s goalless draw between Arsenal and Manchester United.

The France international has rediscovered his best form over the course of the last few weeks with five goals in his last six appearances and again led the line in the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lacazette endured a difficult evening against a resilient United defence, but still came closest to breaking the deadlock when his second-half free-kick rattled the crossbar.

The 29-year-old was unable to complete the match, however, when he was sent crashing to the turf following an aerial challenge with the United skipper.

Lacazette spent several minutes on receiving treatment while he lay almost motionless on the turf and appeared to be groggy when he eventually clambered to his feet.

After the match Mikel Arteta admitted the injury to his No.9 represented a major concern, saying: ‘He landed on his head, I don’t know, they will check him, the doctor is on it.

He was feeling fine right now, so hopefully it’s nothing important. It’s a big worry because we have so many players out at the moment and some players who are struggling to keep playing minutes.’

But Lacazette subsequently appeared to allay fears of any serious damage with a message on Instagram, which read: ‘All good over on this side. Thanks for the doctors for the support and the fans for their concern.’

On the likelihood of Aubameyang returning to the team imminently, meanwhile, Arteta added: ‘We are following the rules and the protocols right now and the protocols say that he cannot be involved at the moment.

‘We have to respect that and the doctor is managing the situation. ‘It’s because he had a family issue that he had to attend to and these are the consequences of that.
